Recycled or Tap driven Garden Irrigation systems. |

|
If you want irrigation the first thing to do is decide what type of water you want to use, we can then design and install a system that will meet your requirements, large or small. Factors affecting design are: 1. What type of Water you want to use. Rainwater, Grey water (bath/shower), or domestic supply (The Irrigation system connects to a timer on an outside tap). 2. The available area for rain water the collection.. 3. Average rain fall 4. Storage 5. What type of collection system, may require rerouting of gutter systems. 6. Mains powered, solar powered or gravity systems. 7. End use requirements, garden irrigation systems (timers, sprinklers, soakers, drip feeds) Control systems |

What’s involved. Rain Water Calculation example. A client has a 6m x 5m roof area. Using an average rainfall of 0.662 ltr per year (local weather station). This area would capture an average of 1,618ltrs per year. Grey Water calculation (It is not recommended to store grey water for more than one day) An average bath equates to 121ltr. The client took 5 baths a week = 605ltrs Yearly bath water 31,460 ltrs
Pipe work
Guttering may need to be rerun to a single collection point to maximise the collection area. A Diverter valve can be installed into the Bath waste pipe, this could be manually switched to divert water to the collection butt or to the Soil pipe.
Filters
The water is filtered before it is collected in the water butt. The type of filter depends on the end use. And drip irrigation system needs a fine filter to avoid nozzle blockages.
Pumps
The pump type would depend on the storage volume, height and end use.
Below ground systems
Another option, more aesthetically pleasing to the eye but a more complicated system to install.
Gravity pressure systems
To be completely self sufficient without using mains electricity a gravity system can be installed. The main requirement is for the storage butt to be higher than the distribution tap. This can be done in 2 ways.
1. A Raised butt, the more height the more pressure.. 2. A 2 butt system that incorporates a solar pump that moves water from a low level butt to a high level one, the same principle as a water tower.
Butts
Various butt sizes are available ranging from 100ltrs to 750ltrs
End Uses
Is the system for a hose pipe or and irrigation system? An irrigation system that is not gravity fed will need a water pump
Irrigation systems
The irrigation system can be supplied by either the outside tap or a renewable source. The design and layout can be tailored precisely to the watering requirements. For example, Vegetables, flowers, lawns or hanging baskets. It can even be used to automatically top up ponds.
Control systems If the irrigation system is mains fed then it can be controlled by an automatic timer from the outside tap. If it a recycled system then the pump could be set up to run on a electric plug timer.
